Journalist shares what club have told Leeds they will have to pay for 25-year-old after failed £8.6m offer

Genk have told Leeds United they will have to pay the £8.6 million in full to sign Joseph Paintsil.

That is according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who claims Leeds’ opening offer for the 25-year-old was worth £8.6 million, but only £6.8 million of that was guaranteed, with the remainder in add-ons.

Instead, Genk have responded with a counter offer where the fee is paid in full, with Tavloieri insisting talks are continuing between the two clubs.

According to Sky Sports last night, Leeds considered walking away from a potential deal after getting the feeling that Genk had ‘moved the goalposts’ on their asking price.

However, it appears as though Leeds are still locked in talks over a potential deal with Paintsil keen on making the move to Elland Road.

Genk counter proposal for Paintsil revealed

Given there is so little between the two teams in terms of valuation, hopefully some sort of an agreement can be struck.

Paintsil would represent a significant coup for Leeds in the Championship having scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in the Belgian league last season.

The Ghana international has had interest from Saudi Arabia and Southampton but the fact he wants a move to Leeds could be a deciding factor.

Should Leeds get a deal done, Daniel Farke would now have a plethora of attacking options at his disposal, particularly after yesterday’s arrival of Joel Piroe.

There is now less than a week left of the window for Leeds to get their remaining business done, of which there is plenty to do.
