Leeds United have seen their opening offer for Joseph Paintsil rejected by Genk.

That is according to HLN Sport, who report Genk have sent a counter proposal to the Whites and are now awaiting a response.

Leeds’ first offer is said to have been in the region of around £8.6 million in total, with around £6.8 million of that guaranteed and the remainder in add-ons.

As per the report, Paintsil is keen on a move to Leeds and has already turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Southampton.

The next few days are expected to ‘bring clarity’ on the situation regarding Paintsil and it remains to be seen whether Leeds will return with a fresh offer close to Genk’s demands.

That said, according to Sky Sports this morning, Leeds and Genk are in advanced talks over a deal for Paintsil, which would indicate they are open to negotiation.

If a deal can be done, the 25-year-old would represent a significant coup for Leeds having scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in the Belgian league last season.

Daniel Farke would now have a plethora of attacking options at his disposal, particularly after yesterday’s arrival of Joel Piroe.

There are now just seven days of the window remaining for clubs to complete their business and Leeds are expected to be very busy.

Hopefully Leeds are able to reach an agreement with the Belgian side over a deal as he would be an excellent addition.
