Journalist says Leeds have now made move to sign 2021 Bielsa target, he can leave current club

Leeds United have made a move to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

That is according to Alan Nixon, who says Leeds could sign O’Brien either permanently or on loan before the end of the window.

It is said Leeds will have to pay £10 million to Forest if they are to sign O’Brien this summer, but a loan with an option-to-buy upon promotion could also work.

As per Nixon, O’Brien is clear to leave the City Ground after falling out of favour under Steve Cooper following his move from Huddersfield Town 12 months ago.

After starting his debut Premier League campaign as a regular, by January he had been unregistered from the squad and headed out to DC United alongside Mateusz Klich on loan for the second half of the season.

Leeds make move to sign Forest’s O’Brien

O’Brien has been linked with a move to Leeds for two years now with interest first arising back in 2021 under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds failed to get a deal done back then and as such, O’Brien signed a new deal at Huddersfield before leaving for Forest the following summer.

Daniel Farke is keen to add to his midfield options before the end of the window with Leeds also reportedly in advanced talks over a move for Glen Kamara at Rangers.

Leeds have already brought in Ethan Ampadu in that area but have lost Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Marc Roca and Adam Forshaw.

O’Brien would represent a solid addition for Leeds if they are to get it done based on his record in the Championship.
