Leeds United have ‘closed the door’ on Everton’s pursuit of Wilfried Gnonto.

That is according to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who reports despite Gnonto being a ‘concrete target’ for the Toffees this summer, Leeds will now allow him to leave.

Everton have already seen a £15 million offer for Gnonto turned down by Leeds in the last couple of weeks, with San Francisco 49ers Enterprises desperate to keep him as part of the club’s promotion push.

Leeds’ new owners are looking to be aggressive in who they keep for the upcoming season and Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison and Tyler Adams are also players who have been earmarked as key to Daniel Farke.

Gnonto still has four years left to run on his contract at Leeds and with no relegation release clause, 49ers Enterprises are in a strong negotiating position.

Everton remain in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer and are not looking to stop after the capture of Arnaut Danjuma.

Danjuma plays in the same position as Gnonto but Sean Dyche is clearly keen to add another left-sided attacker to a squad that struggled for goals last season.

According to reports from Italy, Everton have also made a bid for Juventus’ English teenager Samuel Iling-Junior, which is another indication they may have moved on from Gnonto for now.

Gnonto made his first appearance under Farke in the weekend defeat to AS Monaco and could be handed a start against Nottingham Forest this evening.

Keeping a player of his quality in the Championship would undoubtedly be a huge boost to Leeds’ promotion chances.
