Joel Piroe says 22-year-old Leeds United player just has so much potential

Leeds United currently have one of the youngest squads in the Championship.

The Whites’ promotion push is being spearheaded by a number of talented young players, with only Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers having a lower average age, as per Transfermarkt.

Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray, Ethan Ampadu, Pascal Struijk, Joel Piroe and Illan Meslier are all under the age of 24 and have started the majority of matches this season.

Of that group, it is arguably Summerville who is enjoying the most impressive campaign, though it is certainly close between a few of them. He has 12 goals and seven assists in the Championship, with only Adam Armstong, Morgan Whittaker and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall having contributed to more.

Summerville’s teammate and fellow Dutch compatriot Piroe has been asked about the quality of the 22-year-old in a recent interview with Voetbalzone, and believes it won’t be long until he is representing Netherlands.

Piroe says Summerville will represent Netherlands soon

He said: “I really enjoy Cry at Leeds, he can be a very big one. He is of course very young, but if he continues like this, it can go quickly with him. Also for Orange? I think so. He’s doing great this season, so why not?”

Summerville showed glimpses of what he can do in the Premier League last season but he has really taken his development to the next stage since relegation.

He is already attracting interest from clubs such as Newcastle United and Aston Villa, and it has to be said, whether Leeds are promoted or not, he will be a Premier League player next term.

Summerville has continually made it clear that it is his dream to win promotion with Leeds and hopefully he will manage to do so.

Once he is back playing top-flight football again, if he continues this trajectory, it is hard to see Piroe not being right with his prediction on Summerville’s international future.
