Leeds United boast what many would deem a Premier League squad, in the Championship – and Joel Piroe has predicted where Daniel Farke’s men would finish if inserted into the Dutch Eredivisie.
Many have even argued that Leeds have a better squad now, than the one that competed to remain in the Premier League for the previous two seasons. More strength in depth, and it is difficult to argue.
Internationals on the bench. Italy’s Willy Gnonto, Scotland’s Liam Cooper, Bulgaria’s Ilia Gruev – all sat on the bench. Players wanted by PSG and Manchester City, in the form of Pascal Struijk and Archie Gray.
But, where would Leeds finish if in fact the Whites were not in the Championship – but in the top tier of Dutch football. Piroe has answered that question in an interview with ESPN in Netherlands this week.
The Leeds striker even compared his side to that of Champions League club PSV, who have reached the knockout stages of Europe’s elite competition and face German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
“I think that Leeds could compete at least in the sub-top and perhaps in the top three in the Eredivisie. I feel like we are not much inferior to PSV and Feyenoord,” Piroe said, when talking to ESPN this week.

The Eredivisie boasts incredibly attacking sides such as Feyenoord, PSV and even struggling Ajax, who are slowly but surely returning to the top of the table after a woefully shocking start to the 23-24 term.
PSV are excellent. They are up there with the best 16 teams in Europe right now. Feyenoord, under Arne Slot – who was once linked with the Leeds job – have been superb for a couple of years. Good teams.
So, Piroe reckons Leeds could get into the top three – could we? We’d do incredibly well to compete with the likes of PSV, Ajax and Feyenoord. But we would be a very close fourth to those clubs.
