Joe Rodon shares what the mood was like in Leeds United dressing room after defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday

Leeds United’s bid to go back to the top of the Championship table on Saturday afternoon was denied by Blackburn Rovers as John Eustace got the better of Daniel Farke once again.

In the previous two matches, Leeds had the chance to go top of the league and did so with wins against Swansea City and then Luton Town. Sheffield United beat Sunderland on Friday, to return to the summit.

It meant that Leeds had to go to Blackburn and win in order to return to first place on Saturday. But, since boss Daniel Farke has arrived at Elland Road, he has struggled against Blackburn manager John Eustace.

Eustace got the better of Farke twice last season with Birmingham and Blackburn, and he made it three 1-0 wins in a row over Farke on Saturday. Todd Cantwell scored the only goal of the game, from the spot.

Joe Rodon shares dressing room mood as Leeds lose at Blackburn

Only a third loss in 18 Championship matches, but one that sees Leeds slip into third place after Burnley picked up a 2-0 away win over Stoke City on Saturday. Worse still, the Whites have to wait a week to play.

The next fixture comes against Derby County at Elland Road and Joe Rodon has told LUTV that the Leeds squad are desperate to go again next weekend – saying the squad was “very angry” in the dressing room.

“Me personally, I can’t wait to go next weekend. The team is raring to go and very angry in there, so we’ve just got to dust ourselves off and go again next week,” Rodon said in a despondent mood after full-time.

Remarkably, Leeds are in exactly same position as last season

Last term, Leeds sat in third place after 18 Championship matches like they do following this weekend’s fixtures. In both seasons after 18, Leeds had won 10 games, drew five and lost three – scoring 31 goals.

The difference this season, is that Leeds have only conceded 13 goals in their 18 games. Last season, the Whites had conceded 18 times after 18 games – keeping 10 clean sheets this term, compared to seven.

Perhaps most importantly though, is that Burnley are only a point ahead in second and Sheffield United three ahead at the top. In 2023-24, Ipswich were seven ahead in second, and Leicester eight in front.
