As Leeds struggle for goals, Daniel Farke is having to watch a player he sent away this season shine in Joe Gelhardt.

The man born in Liverpool has now netted seven goals in his last eight Championship games after firing Hull to a 2-1 win over Stoke, also grabbing two assists in those eight outings.

When Sky Sports asked Joe Gelhardt for the secret behind his success at Hull, he made a telling comment which felt pointed at Daniel Farke.

Joe Gelhardt suggests he was unhappy under Daniel Farke at Leeds United

When asked what he puts his excellent form down to, the 23-year-old said: “I think it’s just happiness. I wanted to come back here since (the end of) last season… I’m just very happy at the minute.”

Joe Gelhardt pre-Stoke City win

Farke has only ever given Gelhardt 16 games to prove himself at Leeds, and it sounds as if the German had his favourites regardless of performances in training at Thorp Arch.

Bamford recently revealed that Gelhardt was the best in training at Leeds, and expressed his shock that the Liverpudlian never received many opportunities under the 49-year-old.

That reinforced the notion that he was unhappy at Elland Road, and unless Farke is sacked soon, we can see the Wigan academy graduate being sold.

Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?

Explain why!

Sergej Jakirovic – manager of Hull – even let slip that Gelhardt is not considered a “player for Leeds” by someone at Elland Road, so you can understand why the talented striker may have become disillusioned in Yorkshire despite his best efforts.

The 49ers should choose Joe Gelhardt over Daniel Farke

If Farke truly is the only person blocking Gelhardt from having a proper chance at Leeds, the 49ers have even more reason to act.

Gelhardt has drawn comparisons to Wayne Rooney and Dennis Bergkamp, with many considering him to be a top talent possessing vast amounts of potential.

It would therefore be a crying shame if Farke forces him out for good, especially as the German himself is under pressure and could soon be sacked anyway – Brendan Rodgers is an option being considered.

Gelhardt will probably feel he can outlast the 49-year-old at Leeds anyway seeing as he is on a run of six defeats in the last seven Premier League games, so the 49ers may not even have to intervene.
