Patrick Bamford knows a lot about the current Leeds squad.

The England international only left Elland Road in August having mutually agreed to terminate his contract, after seven years in Yorkshire and 205 appearances for Leeds.

Patrick Bamford was involved in many a training session at Thorp Arch during that time, but a man he claims to be “one of the best trainers” Daniel Farke has could actually soon be sold in Joe Gelhardt.

Patrick Bamford heaps praise on Joe Gelhardt

Speaking in his first press conference since joining Sheffield United, Bamford said: “I don’t want to take credit for it, but one of the boys at Leeds – probably one of the best trainers that I’ve seen in training – he just never got a look in for whatever reason, and is now on fire, is Joffy Gelhardt.

“I used to try and help him as much as I could because I could see that he had the potential to be really good.”

Bamford made ten appearances alongside Gelhardt for Leeds, combining with the 23-year-old to score two goals in those games.

Daniel Farke sounds ready to sell Joe Gelhardt at Leeds United

Farke does not appear to be a fan of the Liverpudlian, having loaned him to Hull City last season before again sending the striker to the Tigers for the current campaign.

Daniel Farke thinks he’s the perfect manager for Harry Gray

“I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I gave Harry his debut. If I were to back a manager to be brave enough to play a young player, I’d pick me.”

Sergej Jakirovic – manager of Hull City – spoke about the Leeds loanee on Thursday amid a run of five goals and two assists in his last six Championship outings, making a worrying comment.

The Bosnian insinuated Leeds see no future for Gelhardt in Yorkshire, saying: “I don’t think Leeds see him like a player for Leeds. Of course, this is their opinion, but right now he is showing very good performances and a very high level. His statistics are amazing right now.

“If there was no embargo (in January) we would try to close the deal immediately.”

It would be a crying shame if Leeds did allow Gelhardt to leave permanently, but it seems to only be heading in one direction as long as Farke remains in charge.
