Ian Poveda starred once again for Sheffield Wednesday as they secured a fifth Championship win in six games – and Jean-Kevin Augustin reacted on Instagram to the Leeds United loanee’s display.
Poveda, 24, joined Wednesday on loan in January with a permanent deal expected to be done come the end of the season. His deal at Leeds is due to expire in the summer, and Wednesday should sign him.
He’s started Wednesday’s last six league games – in which Danny Rohl’s men have picked up five wins, giving them a chance of survival. Still in 23rd, but Wednesday are one of four sides sitting on 38 points.
Poveda has made a real impact, with the Sheffield Star describing him as “a pleasure to watch” last night, handing him 7/10. He took to Instagram, teasing Plymouth with the caption “crashed the boat”.

Finally, Poveda is being given the platform to go and shine. Joining Leeds after just one senior outing at Manchester City, Poveda played only 30 times at senior level for us – over the course of four years.
A broken leg while on loan at Blackburn of course, did not help. Last season, an indifferent loan spell with Blackpool. But now, he is first choice at a club that want to play attractive, attacking football.
The pressure is on Wednesday at the moment but you wouldn’t think it given their run of results and form so far. Augustin, meanwhile, has also found a home – staying at Basel since the summer of 2022.
He is closing on 50 games for the Swiss side after his ill-fated and expensive stint with Leeds – which lasted three games. But the relationship is still there with Poveda, as he commented on his Instagram.
