‘I’ve been told’: Journalist shares what he has heard Jaidon Anthony will bring to Leeds

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue says he has ‘been told’ Jaidon Anthony will bring ‘intelligent pressing’ to Leeds United.

Donnohue was speaking on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast, where he discussed the deadline day signing of Anthony from Bournemouth.

The 24-year-old made the move to Elland Road after the 11pm deadline as a swap deal involving Luis Sinisterra went right to the wire.

Anthony has joined the Whites on a season-long-loan from the Cherries and will be a direct replacement for Sinisterra, though will bring some much different attributes to Daniel Farke’s squad.

Sinisterra possessed quality clearly way beyond that of the Championship, as well as the ability to score or create from nothing, while Anthony is more of a winger who can pick a pass, and work much harder.

YEP journalist Donnohue says he has spoken to a journalist who covered Bournemouth during their promotion campaign, of which Anthony played a key part of with eight goals and seven assists.

He has been told Anthony will offer an exceptional work-rate, as well as the ability to win the ball back in high areas due to his pressing, which isn’t really something, aside from Dan James, Leeds’ current wingers have.

He said: “I think he is more than enough. I just got off the phone with somebody who covered Bournemouth during their promotion season under Scott Parker, and he was speaking in real glowing terms about Jaidon Anthony, about his ability on the pitch, but also his demeanour off it.

“He’s very down to earth, normal guy, very jovial and will have a conversation with anybody. It really sounds as though at 24, he will really acclimate to this Leeds squad nicely. It’s not as if he’s coming into a team really well established and full of veterans and senior players.

“Then you look at the stylistic fit, right-footed, left winger, good defensive attributes and a hard worker. I’ve been told he’s a very intelligent presser which I think is important given how advanced Leeds are going to be in the final third.”

What’s clear from these quotes are that Anthony will bring far more to Farke’s side off-the-ball than Sinisterra ever did.

Of course, it was a huge blow losing Sinisterra but Anthony will offer something different and is clearly a top player at this level, meaning he will be a real asset.
