Paraag Marathe has explained how determined he is to make Leeds United supporters ‘proud’ of their club again after San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ takeover was given the greenlight.
Leeds officially confirmed via their website late last night that ownership transition immediately after the EFL finally gave their approval of 49ers’ Enterprises full buyout of Andrea Radrizzani’s Aser Ventures.
It was confirmed over a month ago that an agreement had been reached between the two parties but last night’s announcement finally brings an end to Radrizzani’s six-year reign as majority shareholder.
Marathe will now take over from Radrizzani’s role as club chairman, with Rudy Cline-Thomas replacing him in his position as vice-chair.
Angus Kinnear will remain as chief executive, while Leeds are close to landing Victor Orta’s successor with Gretar Steinsson set to be named in a senior recruitment role.
Marathe makes Leeds fans promise after EFL greenlight
Marathe has already been leading key decisions such as Daniel Farke’s appointment in recent weeks but is now able to really get to work in his new role after EFL ratification.
Speaking in Leeds’ official statement last night, Marathe says 49ers Enterprises have already been working hard on building a squad they feel will fight for promotion next season.
He said: “This is an important moment for Leeds United and we are already hard at work. This transition is a necessary reset to chart a new course for the club. We have already appointed a highly-respected first team manager with a track record of success, and we are confident Leeds will field a competitive squad to contend for promotion next season.
“It’s a privilege to carry this torch as I know we have a responsibility to ensure this club makes our staff, players, supporters, and the Leeds and Yorkshire communities proud.”
This is a huge moment for Leeds and it really feels like they can finally get to work on the transfer window following yesterday’s announcement.
Marathe appears completely determined to be the man that leads Leeds back to where they belong and there are certainly some big names working alongside him to help do so.
