Everton are now in talks over a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko in what is a big boost to Leeds United’s hopes of keeping Wilfried Gnonto.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Everton are set to make a firm approach for Bakayoko in the coming hours after holding talks over a potential deal.
The Toffees are set to battle Ligue 1 giants PSG in the race for his signature, while Serie A champions Napoli are also expected to make an offer.
Despite having already signed Jack Harrison from Leeds on Monday, Everton are in the market for another winger with Gnonto their number one target.
As per Sky Sports yesterday, Everton have now seen four offers turned down by Leeds for the 19-year-old, the most recent of which totalled £25 million.
Everton in talks for Bakayoko as they seek Gnonto alternatives
Gnonto is determined to make the move to Goodison Park before the end of the window but both Leeds and Daniel Farke have publicly stated he is not for sale.
That is despite the fact Gnonto is now training away from the rest of the first team squad at Thorp Arch after refusing to play in each of Leeds’ last two matches.
Everton are clearly determined to get a deal over the line for Gnonto but have been slightly hamstrung financially this summer making a transfer difficult to complete.
As such, a firm approach having now been made for PSV’s Bakayoko could indicate they have moved on from their pursuit of Gnonto to seek other targets.
This could be a huge update in Leeds’ chances of keeping Gnonto at Elland Road.
