Willy Gnonto is expected to be signing a new deal at Leeds United in due course but with deadline day now upon us, the Italy international could emerge as a late target for West Ham United today.
Gnonto, 20, has struggled this season. Just one goal in 24 games, after refusing to play in three games back in August as the winger tried to force his way out of Elland Road. But now, he may sign a new deal.
Fabrizio Romano says that a deal is getting closer and it could be announced in the next few hours or days. It comes after Gnonto has been linked with the likes of West Ham, Fulham and new Italian sides.
But the latest reports look as though Gnonto was going to stay. However, nothing has been announced or confirmed. Now, Dean Jones claims West Ham could turn to Gnonto on the final day of the window.
West Ham are interested in signing Al-Ittihad’s Jota, as well as FC Nordsjaelland winger Ibrahim Osman – but those deals are becoming difficult to do as the deadline comes into view. Gnonto is their plan C.
“Deals for Osman and Jota have hit the skids. It’s been a frustrating week. At one stage they thought both players would end up signing. Now they’re having to consider the possibility of not signing anyone.
“I’m told they don’t want to panic. Don’t want to take on a player they didn’t already have on the radar. A situation like Gnonto is one that would appeal but at the moment it hasn’t progressed,” he told GMS.

Gnonto is a top talent and ultimately, he needs the stage to go and show that. At Leeds right now, he is not getting that. But, Leeds have faith in him – after he proved himself in the Premier League last term.
If Gnonto feels he needs to go, then West Ham would be a stunning move for him. But the chances are, Gnonto signs a new deal and then a move could be looked at again when the summer comes around.
