‘I wonder’: Graham Smyth says £5m Leeds signing could now be handed full debut at Millwall

Graham Smyth can see Leeds United handing Glen Kamara his full debut for the club at Millwall.

Smyth was speaking on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast where a number of Daniel Farke’s selection dilemmas ahead of the game were discussed.

Farke will be able to welcome back both Sam Byram and Dan James from injury, while Ilia Gruev and Jaidon Anthony will also be in contention for the first time.

Djed Spence and Kamara will also be pushing for their full debuts after coming off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday, though the former is a major doubt after picking up an injury in training.

Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu have started all seven of Leeds’ games in all competitions this season, but both Kamara and Gruev will now be pushing to replace them.

Smyth thinks Kamara could start at Millwall

With an intense atmosphere expected from a sold-out Millwall home crowd, Smyth believes Kamara could come in for Gray at the Den due to his experience.

He said: “I wonder if he [Kamara] is the one that comes in. Ampadu strikes me as a fairly composed character so you’d have no concerns whatsoever about him being there. Then there’s the argument young players play with freedom, like teenagers they play sometimes without a care in the world because they haven’t been burdened by what is it that surrounds football.

“Maybe you just let Archie go in there as long as he’s fully fit and do his thing but I would probably be sided with Kamara coming in.”

Kamara’s cameo against Wednesday was his first minutes on the pitch since June but clearly match fitness is not an issue after playing the full 90 for Finland against Denmark last weekend.

The 27-year-old has plenty of experience playing in front of intense crowds having spent four years at Rangers, whom he left Leeds for around £5 million last month.

For those reasons, it would probably make sense for Leeds bring in Kamara on Sunday, but at the same time, it would not be a surprise if Gray is given the nod.
