‘I tell you what’… Pundit shares what he saw Mateo Joseph do immediately after Bamford’s miss for Leeds

Neil Redfearn has shared what Mateo Joseph did just after Patrick Bamford missed a glorious chance to put Leeds United 2-0 up against Hull City on Monday night.

At half-time at Elland Road, Leeds fans would have been fearing another Easter nightmare in the Championship promotion race. Ipswich had already punched Daniel Farke‘s men in the gut with their 97th minute winner against Southampton.

And with that, some may have only allowed cautious optimism when Sam Byram put Leeds in front in the opening 10 minutes.

Hull would equalise before the break thanks to former Leeds target Fabio Carvalho. And in truth, the visitors had us on the ropes at times.

Patrick Bamford suffers nightmare moment for Leeds

But it could have been so different had Patrick Bamford put Leeds 2-0 up midway through the first-half. The striker was played in by Daniel James and had an open goal just a few yards out.

Somehow however, Bamford sent the ball flying over the crossbar. Immediately, he looked over to the official to see if he was offside. And as he picked himself out of the goal, he also made sure to look down at the pitch as if that may have been responsible.

One of the fastest to react to the miss, it seems, was Mateo Joseph, with Neil Redfearn suggesting on BBC Radio Leeds that the young striker sensed an opportunity.

“That’s harder to do, to get it up in the air like that, it’s easier to put in in,” he said.

“I tell you what, Mateo Joseph has just got out of the dugout and started warming up in-front of the manager after seeing that.”

You could understand if Joseph did sense an opportunity. Despite taking the lead, Leeds were so poor for so much of the game. Hull definitely dominated a lot of the ball.

Joseph had been Leeds’ hero at Vicarage Road on Friday night, with the striker bundling home the late equaliser for the visitors.

Funnily enough, it was from a similar distance from which Bamford missed at the crucial moment on Monday.
