Ipswich Town striker George Hirst says his side have the quality to “hurt” Leeds United on Saturday afternoon ahead of what is a big clash in the race for automatic promotion from the Championship.
Hirst has been on fire for Ipswich – leading Kieran McKenna’s attack. Signed for £1.5m in the summer from Leicester, after an initial loan from January last season, he’s had a hand in 12 Championship goals.
Playing 21 times in the league, he’s scored six and laid on six assists. The 13-time England U20 man was even linked with a move to Leeds back in 2017, when Hirst was coming through at Sheffield Wednesday.
Speaking to Ipswich Town’s website ahead of Saturday’s clash between second and third, with a gap of 10 points in between, Hirst admitted the quality of this Leeds side – but is confident they can hurt Leeds.
“It’s massive for us, to go and see where we’re at. We like to think we can mix with them. We’ll be ready. Very good side, a lot of attacking threat. A game we have to be disciplined, really nail down the basics.
“Once we get that right, we know we’ve got the quality to hurt them. It’s thinking what can we do to hurt them, how to win the game. We’re at our best when disciplined. We’ve got a lot better at it,” he said.
