Luton Town are reportedly keen on signing Ashley Young on a free transfer, which could be good news for Leeds United.
That is according to talkSPORT, who report the newly promoted Premier League side have ‘explored the possibility’ of signing Young on a free transfer this summer.
Young is currently without a club following his surprise release from Aston Villa last month, where he had become a regular under Unai Emery in helping them qualify for Europe.
Luton are keen to add some Premier League experience to their squad ahead of the new season, and Young certainly fits that bill with over 400 appearances under his belt in England’s top-flight.
Having started his career as a flying left-winger, Young is now very much seen as right-back, which could indicate they have ended their pursuit of Cody Drameh.
Luton’s Young interest could end Drameh interest
Drameh spent the second half of last season on loan at Luton and was a consistent figure at right-wing-back as they secured promotion via the play-offs, with manager Rob Edwards frequently hailing his ‘quality’.
Alongside Burnley, Luton are said to want to bring Drameh back to Kenilworth Road this summer, but with other options being considered, that interest maybe over.
The 21-year-old may now finally be handed the opportunity to nail down a first team spot at Leeds after the club’s relegation, with Rasmus Kristensen likely to join Roma.
It is said that Drameh will only stay at Leeds on the condition he will receive regular game time, which should be a no brainer based on his loan spells at Cardiff City, and most recently Luton.
If the Hatters are to sign Young on a free, that may well signal the end of their hopes of re-signing Drameh, enhancing Leeds chances of keeping him
