Recently promoted Premier League duo Burnley and Luton Town are set to open talks to sign Leeds United defender Cody Drameh in the coming days.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who also claims Leeds remain keen on convincing Drameh to stay at the club as they look to build a team ready for promotion.
Drameh has just 12 months left to run on his contract at Elland Road, though reports earlier this week indicated Leeds are ready to open talks over a new deal as soon as the defender gives the green light.
It is also said that Drameh is open to remaining at Leeds with the club having been in contact with him to provide assurances over playing time next season.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of last term on loan at Luton, where he played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Burnley and Luton keen on Drameh
Leeds have dealt poorly with the Drameh situation in the last couple of seasons and should’ve handed him a first team opportunity last season instead of bringing in Rasmus Kristensen, who struggled in the Premier League.
Drameh proved that he was ready in his first loan spell away from the Whites in 2022, where he cleaned up in Cardiff City’s end of season awards despite having only been there for six months.
With Premier League interest now growing, Leeds face a real fight on their hands to keep him, which would be frustrating given how he has proved himself in the Championship.
Game time has always been key to keeping Drameh happy and Leeds haven’t been able to offer that, but there is no reason why he shouldn’t be first choice now.
Leeds will just be hoping it is not too little, too late.
