Cody Drameh is ‘open’ to staying at Leeds United this summer despite having earned promotion to the Premier League on loan at Luton Town.
That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who claim Leeds have been in contact with Drameh to ‘provide assurances’ over his game time next season.
Drameh spent the second half of the season at Luton and helped them reach the top-flight for the first time since 1992 after a play-off final penalty shootout victory over Coventry City on Saturday.
The 22-year-old played a key role for Rob Edwards’ side after his January move, establishing himself as a fan favourite with two assists in 19 appearances.
Reports over the weekend indicated Luton will make a permanent move for Drameh but it is not seen as a foregone conclusion with Leeds keen to keep him.
Drameh could stay at Leeds
Drameh has just 12 months left to run on his current deal at Elland Road, but the YEP claim talks will be initiated as soon as the young right-back gives the green light.
Tying up his future would be a huge boost to Leeds ahead of a return to the Championship, with Drameh having excelled in both of his loan spells in the division.
Leeds currently have both Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen as options on the right side of defence, though both endured poor seasons as the club were relegated.
Not too many supporters would be too disgruntled to see Kristensen leave this summer despite only arriving from Red Bull Salzburg 12 months ago.
It could also be time for Ayling to move on, though he remains a big character in the dressing room. Should he stay, it is time that he takes up a more bit-part role.
Drameh could be one of a number of youngsters set to be thrust into first team action for Leeds next season, with Charlie Cresswell, Leo Hjelde and Joe Gelhardt all likely to be handed bigger roles.
