Leeds United fans have been riding the crest of a wave in the last few months, last losing way back in November and going 17 Championship games without defeat.
But that came crashing down on Sunday afternoon when Portsmouth continued their excellent home record to beat The Whites at Fratton Park and inflict just a fourth league defeat on Daniel Farke’s Leeds.
Leeds had plenty of chances, too. Joel Piroe missed two sitters that normally, would have seen Piroe on a hat-trick. Dan James missed a header, and Junior Firpo should have scored a third goal in three games.
While Leeds created chances, Portsmouth were well worth their three points. They had chances too and ultimately, proved more clinical in front of goal when in-form Colby Bishop dinked over Illan Meslier.

Neil Warnock disappointed with Illan Meslier and his positioning
It is not the first time Meslier has been the subject of criticism but actually, there is debate over whether was his mistake – or, the ever-reliable Joe Rodon’s. Aidy White said Rodon allowed Bishop to run off him.
While Stuart Dallas thinks Bishop’s mind was made up when Meslier hesitated, convincing him to shoot instead of going round the Frenchman. Speaking to Sky Sports, Neil Warnock agreed with Dallas.
“He could have come first time. If his position was toward the edge of the box where it should have been, I think he’d have got it easily there. I was disappointed for the goal from his point of view today,” he said.
What Daniel Farke said about Illan Meslier’s role in Pompey goal
Farke admitted that it was a goal Leeds should not have conceded and while the German manager needs to watch the footage back, he suggested that Meslier should have come out of his goal quicker.
But that is what happens to a goalkeeper who is somewhat under fire. He questions his decision-making and that indecision can prove to be decisive for opponents, Bishop finishing with the help of the post.
Warnock does not think Farke will dwell on it and actually, thinks Farke will take positives from the loss in that Leeds did create chances. Next up for Leeds, is Millwall at Elland Road then QPR next Saturday.
