Gus Poyet discusses reports Daniel Farke is under ‘big pressure’ as Leeds United manager

Daniel Farke is under increasing pressure to get Leeds United promoted in his second season with many of the belief that it is make or break for his tenure as Leeds manager.

Farke came within an inch of guiding Leeds back to the Premier League at the first attempt last season. Defeat in the play-off final saw Leeds become the first Championship club to fail to go up with 90 points.

The German manager won his first promotion at Norwich in his second season with the Canaries and that is part of the pressure on Farke’s shoulders to go and get promotion this time around at Elland Road.

Leeds are keeping tabs on Carlos Corberan, with a report saying there is ‘big pressure’ on Farke to win promotion. The West Brom gaffer was part of the list to take over at Leeds before Farke was appointed.

Former Leeds United assistant manager Gus Poyet has now discussed the uncertainty surrounding Farke as Leeds manager, and whether The Whites should stick or twist with the two-time Championship winner.

Gus Poyet says Leeds fans should be patient with Daniel Farke

Farke and Leeds might not have envisaged the need for a mini-rebuild in the transfer market this summer. But the sales of Archie Gray, Cree Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Glen Kamara forced them to rebuild.

Poyet, who worked as assistant manager at Elland Road under Dennis Wise for a year between October 2006 and October 2007, has told Football League World that Leeds fans need to give Farke time as boss.

“You have to trust the manager. He has lost Archie Gray and others. They need a solid base to improve on results and this is his chosen way. I’m sure they’ll get it right and challenge come the end of the season.”

Leeds United’s next five fixtures are key in promotion push

Leeds got back to winning ways on Saturday with a solid-enough 2-0 win away at Cardiff. But there are still issues, with Farke bemoaning Leeds’ inability to take chances and relying on an 87th-minute goal.

The next five games are incredibly tough. Coventry took five points off Leeds last season and Mark Robins’ side will arguably be Leeds’ biggest test this season behind Burnley at Elland Road this weekend.

Then, four really tough games against in-form sides. Farke’s old team at Carrow Road, followed by early pace-setters Sunderland who now sit in second at the Stadium of Light before the international break.

Returning from the break, Leeds then face a massive clash against Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United. A side expected to up there with Leeds, before Watford four days later with Tom Cleverley’s side starting well.

If Leeds manage to get a few wins in the next five games, then it will relieve a degree of pressure on Farke’s shoulders. But there is every chance Farke’s side could struggle over the next few weeks.
