Sammie Szmodics won The Championship’s golden boot with Blackburn Rovers last season but when asked, he believes Leeds United have a player that is “10 times” better than him.

The 28-year-old striker scored a whopping 33 goals last season, 27 of which came in The Championship. It has seen him linked with a big-money move this summer, with Premier League clubs said to be keen.

West Ham and Everton are among the clubs who want the £20m-rated striker, as per London World. The chances of the forward staying at Blackburn come the deadline does seem pretty unrealistic this summer.

Leeds actually made a move to sign Szmodics in 2019, during his Colchester United days. Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony thinks Leeds would get promoted if they sign Szmodics this summer.

Szmodics says Leeds United player is 10 times better than him

While he won The Championship’s top scorer award, Szmodics was pipped to the post for the league’s Player of the Season trophy to Leeds star Crysencio Summerville who had a hand in 31 goals last term.

Summerville continues to be linked with the exit door at Elland Road, as Glen Kamara’s Rennes consider making a move. He is ‘weighing up his future’, with Premier League trio Newcastle, Palace and Villa keen.

On YouTuber Still Ryan’s channel in a clip posted on X, Szmodics was asked to punch – with a boxing glove – the presenter when he heard the name of a better player. He thinks he is better than Joel Piroe.

But when Summerville was named, he responded by saying: “Great player. 10 times better than me.”

Leeds should sign Szmodics and offload Piroe, thinks he’s better

One thing Leeds did miss last season was a striker who looked like he was going to score every weekend. Piroe was good sporadically but his confidence dipped when Patrick Bamford came in to the starting XI.

Bamford remains injury prone, and is only good when on a run. The one-time England striker needs to get himself some momentum before being worthy of a starting spot and Leeds can’t afford passengers.

The Whites need a striker and Mateo Joseph could be that man, but will Farke rely on the Spaniard when he is still largely unproven? Szmodics is available, yet expensive, but he would guarantee goals.
