David Prutton has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Daniel Farke deserves respect if he is appointed Leeds boss having gained promotion from the Championship on two separate occasions – during his stint as Norwich manager.
Farke, 46, is looking for a new club. He has spent the majority of the 2022-23 campaign with Gladbach, but after just 12 wins in 36 games – he was sacked this month. Phil Hay says Leeds have been impressed after initial talks.
But, that Brendan Rodgers remains the one they “really want”. Farke of course, got Norwich promoted two times while manager of the Canaries. However, he did not prevent relegation after the first promotion in the 20-21 season.
The second time he gained promotion to the Premier League, he was sacked in November 2021. There are question marks about his Premier League ability – but none regarding his Championship credentials. Prutton gave his verdict.

“Farke has done it twice. They were brilliant under him. They did less than tread water in the Premier League. So if you get a proven Championship winner that wants to come then you’ve got to give him the respect he deserves.
“It is no mean feat getting a team out of the Championship. The majority of goals were Emi Buendia playing it into Teemu Pukki and they were an absolute joy to watch, like with Pablo and the strikers he played with,” Farke said.

Rightly so. Farke is a manager that has promotion on his CV twice, and that is impressive. As Prutton says, it is hard to get out of the Championship and Leeds fans will know that first hand. It took Marcelo Bielsa to get us promoted.
But, one thing that will help an instant return to promotion is the reconnection of Leeds fans with the club. Getting the appointment not only right, but a manager that excites the fans, will help our cause. Right now, that is Rodgers.
