Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has bemoaned his lack of options up front after the Spanish club were linked with a move for former Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford.

Leeds released Patrick Bamford during the summer transfer window, ending his seven-year association with the club after joining at the start of the Marcelo Bielsa era.

Bamford has been linked with several clubs since departing Elland Road, including a move to Scottish giants Celtic, but he remains unattached as things stand.

A surprise rumour emerged in the build-up to Leeds’ game against Bournemouth, which suggested that Bamford was on the verge of a move to La Liga to join Getafe on a free transfer.

Now, the Getafe boss has bemoaned the lack of strikers in his squad after they were held to a 1-1 draw with Levante, potentially adding weight to the links with Bamford.

Speaking to Diario AS after a remarkable game against Levante, in which he made three substitutions in the first 40 minutes, Bordalas was in a foul mood.

When asked for his post-match reflections, Bordalas opened by stating: “The feeling I have is one of constant suffering,” which Leeds fans may empathise with after conceding another last-minute goal against Bournemouth.

Having been linked to Bamford in recent days, Bordalas was equally direct when asked if he believes his squad lacks depth in attack, responding: “What do you think? We have one. I don’t know of any professional team that has only one striker. It’s obvious.”

To highlight their attacking woes, Getafe finished with veteran right-back Nyom leading the line as they looked for a late winner.

Bordalas has made his desire for a striker abundantly clear. With Bamford available on an immediate transfer, he could be the answer Bordalas is looking for.

La Liga could be perfect for veteran former Leeds United man

Having been without a club for exactly one month today, Patrick Bamford is clearly taking his time to ensure that his next move is the right one for his career.

At 32 years old, Bamford still has several years left in his career, and he has shown that he remains a capable player, even in a reduced capacity during his final years with Leeds.

Bamford can take inspiration from former Leicester City man Jamie Vardy, who signed for Serie A side Cremonese in the off-season, after his time with the Foxes came to an end.

The former Leeds man was always an intelligent and adaptable player. The chance to test himself in La Liga could be the perfect way for Bamford to end his career on a high.
