Leeds United striker Joel Piroe believes his partnership with Georginio Rutter still has room for improvement.

Piroe was speaking to Sky Sports after picking up his goal of the month award for September, with his opener at Millwall – set up by Rutter – receiving the most votes.

Since his £10.5 million arrival from Swansea City in August, Rutter and Piroe have started every game alongside one another in an extremely exciting Leeds attack.

In that time, Piroe has scored five goals in nine appearances for the Whites, with Rutter netting twice and also providing four assists.

The two have skillsets in which complement each other nicely, with Piroe the most clinical of the duo, but Rutter the most creative thanks to his passing and dribbling ability.

Piroe says partnership with Rutter can still improve

Reflecting on how the two players have linked up so far, Piroe believes Daniel Farke is helping to bring the best out of both, but still feels there is room for improvement.

He said: “There are still some bits we need to work on, but we’re growing every day and really getting to know each other. We know about what we both have and we are just trying to make it work better and better.

“I think this might be my best position. The team is set up so we’re playing as two strikers who swap roles every now and again, and I think it brings the best out of both of us. I think we’ll only get better as well.”

There certainly is areas for both players to work on, with Rutter’s definitely in front of goal having missed a few big opportunities so far this season.

His work in general play more than makes up for the chances he has spurned, though, particularly when Piroe is averaging more than a goal every two games at Leeds.

However, Piroe could certainly offer more in general play and out of possession, so it is good to hear that he knows there are things to work on.
