Gary Neville has told The Overlap Debate that Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are not right for the Leeds United job as things stand – despite Leeds being on the lookout for a new manager, and both Englishman currently without work.
Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday after a loss to Nottingham Forest. Michael Skubala has taken caretaker charge, alongside Chris Armas and Paco Gallardo. The trio masterminded a 2-2 draw at Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Rayo Vallecano’s Andoni Iraola has been strongly linked. Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou and plenty of other managers have been suggested. Andrea Radrizzani is also a fan of Mauricio Pochettino, as per the Guardian.
Neville was asked if he felt Lampard or Gerrard could get the Leeds job – after both have lost their roles as Everton and Villa manager. TMW said Gerrard is an outsider, but the chances of Leeds bringing in Lampard is absolutely zero.
“I don’t think so. I saw three names linked today, not Lampard or Gerrard. That wouldn’t be right for Leeds and I don’t think it would be right for them either. Leeds need some experience,” Neville told his Overlap channel during a debate.

Gary Neville: Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard not right for Leeds job
Rightly so. There is no chance Leeds go after Lampard. Leeds fans do not like him – largely because of the Spygate scandal and because, of his antics after Derby knocked Leeds out of the Championship play-offs under Marcelo Bielsa.
Gerrard? Well, he was excellent at Rangers but struggled at Villa. There are question marks over whether he could do it in the Premier League and it might be that the Liverpool icon has to drop into the Championship to prove himself.
Right now, the Leeds job has eclipsed both managers. Iraola, Slot and plenty of others have been linked but it seems as if Leeds are no closer to bringing in a replacement as they were 24 hours, 48 hours ago. Time will tell.
