Three of the four teams Leeds United were battling relegation against last season have all been punished for breaches of PSR rules.
Everton were the first side to be charged and then deducted 10 points, though that was reduced to six on appeal. Nottingham Forest were also docked four points last month.
The Toffees were then hit by a further two-point deduction last week, while Leicester City are set to start next season on minus points if they return to the Premier League.
Jamie Carragher believes Leeds and Southampton have every reason to feel hard done by, though it would be fair to say aspects of the Whites’ accounts don’t make for great reading either.
It was revealed by football finance expert Kieran Maguire last week that Leeds actually owe £190 million in unpaid transfer instalments, a figure which blew the mind of Alan Brazil.

Football finance expert says Leeds could actually fail PSR if promoted
It was reported by Phil Hay at the back end of last week that Leeds are confident they are compliant with both the Premier League and EFL’s PSR rules after their latest accounts.
However, speaking on talkSPORT yesterday morning, another football finance expert Stefan Borson has actually shared why Leeds could fail PSR if they are promoted.
Leeds currently sit third in the Championship and could still return to the Premier League either automatically, or through the play-offs.
As is often the case, people at the club would be entitled to promotion bonuses if Leeds do go up, a figure Borson claims stands at around £20 million.
When asked about the state of Leeds’ finances if they are promoted, Borson suggested a potential charge could be in the offing as a result of these bonuses, which could, of course, lead to a points deduction.
He said: “Leeds United, if they get promotion this season, may well fail PSR because of a £20 million hit for promotion bonuses. But, of course, this season they have not had the countervailing revenue increase. They have actually had a revenue decrease.
“So, ironically, by getting promotion, they could fail PSR and be punished in the Premier League even though the only reason they failed is because they got promotion.”
PSR rules not fit for purpose amid Borson’s Leeds reveal
If Leeds were to remain in the Championship, there is no doubt they would have to sell some key players in order to stay compliant with PSR.
Not only would that include some of the returning loanees, but also some of this season’s first team squad. The likes of Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Willy Gnonto will undoubtedly attract interest.
However, if Borson’s latest claim is indeed true, it just highlights how the current PSR rules are not fit for purpose.
Leeds would effectively being punished for rewarding their players and staff for achieving on the pitch, which is never what these financial rules were set out to do.
