Former Millwall defender Byron Webster has warned Leeds United to prepare for a ‘loud and hostile’ atmosphere at the Den on Sunday.
Webster was speaking to the South London Press ahead of the two sides’ first meeting in the capital for four years after Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League in May.
Leeds have a notoriously poor record in their recent trips to the Den having not won in any of their last six away games at Millwall, a run which dates back to November 2012.
Five of those matches ended in defeat, with Webster having been involved in a 1-0 win for Millwall in this fixture back in 2017.
It is a run Leeds will be looking to address this weekend after a tough start to the season that has seen them pick up six points from their first five games under Daniel Farke.
Former Millwall man Webster sends Leeds warning
Webster, who left Millwall back in 2019 after 137 appearances for the club, says it is one of the ‘first’ fixtures he ‘looked for’ back in June and has warned Leeds to expect a big atmosphere.
He said: “It’s loud and hostile – the games you want to be playing in. I’m from Leeds. I’m not a Leeds fan, but my dad and all my family are. It was one of the first games I looked for when the fixtures lists were released.
“It will be an amazing day and even better if we get the win and beat Leeds. The sun will be shining – it always is. It will be a fantastic day for everyone involved.”
With Millwall missing some key men at the back and Leeds finally having put the uncertainty of the summer behind them, the Whites will not have a better chance to end their barren run at the Den.
Leeds’ squad is more than good enough to go there and come away with three points as long as they do not buckle under the pressure of the crowd like so many have in years gone by.
It would be a real statement of intent from this young Leeds squad if they were to get the win and hopefully it can be the game that kick starts their season.
