Gary Rowett is unsure whether Matija Sarkic will be fit to face Leeds United on Sunday.
Rowett was speaking to the South London Press ahead of the Sunday lunchtime meeting between the two sides at the Den, which will be screened live on Sky Sports.
Sarkic is a summer signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers that has been in excellent form since his arrival in the capital, playing every minute of every league game.
Despite picking up his current problem in the lead up to the trip to Birmingham City last time out, Sarkic saved a penalty from Scott Hogan.
However, Sarkic has been forced to sit out both of Montenegro’s EURO qualifiers over the international break, including against Ilia Gruev’s Bulgaria on Sunday night.
Rowett unsure if Sarkic will face Leeds
Speaking in the week leading up to the game, Rowett says Millwall are continuing to assess the extent of his injury and are hopeful it is not serious.
He said: “Matty picked up a quad injury in the week leading up to the Birmingham game. He got through the game fine but felt sore off the back of it.
“We’re assessing that and trying to work out if it is a short-term injury or something a little bit more sinister. Hopefully it is not too serious. It’s disappointing he’s felt it because his form has been excellent – saving the penalty against Birmingham was an additional moment where you can see the quality he has.”
Should Sarkic fail to recover in time, that will be two key parts of Millwall’s defensive unit unavailable for the game against Leeds on Sunday, with captain Shaun Hutchinson already having been ruled out.
With the attacking options Daniel Farke will have at his disposal on Sunday, Leeds may not get a better chance to end their barren recent record at Millwall.
The Whites have not won at the Den in any of their last six meetings since November 2012, but hopefully that will be put to bed on Sunday.
