Fabrizio Romano has teased Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Naidem Amiri.
Romano was responding to a post from Get German Football News who report that a deal for Amiri is now on the verge of completion for a fee of £6 million.
They claim that Amiri is set to sign a four-year-deal at Elland Road after a day of twists and turns, where this morning a deal looked all but off, before a complete change of heart just hours later.
Romano was the man who first broke Leeds’ interest in the 26-year-old late on Wednesday evening, stating that a ‘formal’ offer had been submitted to Leverkusen.
Amid all the uncertainties surrounding the deal today, Romano has remained quiet on giving anymore updates, but this latest post is a tease a deal is all but done.
Romano teases Amiri to Leeds is imminent
Romano simply responded to GGFN’s post with a ‘winking’ emoji, in what is a major hint Leeds have won the race for Amiri.
Amiri will provide Daniel Farke with that creative number 10 he has been craving throughout his time at Elland Road, with the Leeds boss the driving force behind the deal.
He could finally be about to replace the void left by Pablo Hernandez, who left all the way back in 2021.
At this stage it remains unclear whether Amiri will be signed in time for Leeds’ trip to Ipswich Town on Saturday, with any new signings having to be registered by midday on Friday.
He is expected to join alongside striker Joel Piroe, who is also on the verge of joining the Whites from Swansea City for £12 million.
