Djed Spence is now close to sealing his next loan move after leaving Leeds United last week.

Spence had been on a season-long-loan at Elland Road until Leeds opted to cut his time at the club short, with Daniel Farke citing the reasons behind the decision at the end of last week.

Having just started to find some rhythm at Leeds following a long injury lay-off, his exit came as a shock to supporters, but perhaps more so Tottenham Hotspur, who were reportedly taken aback by his return.

Spurs immediately made Spence available for transfer following his exit from Leeds, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he is already on the verge of sealing his next move.

Romano has this morning reported on Twitter that the 23-year-old is set to make the surprise switch to Serie A side Genoa, with Spurs keen on signing their centre-back Radu Dragusin.

Spurs have been chasing Dragusin for the entirety of the window and it would now appear they are closing in on a breakthrough, with Spence going the other way a fresh development.

A bid of around £25.7 million has been made by the North London side, with ‘all parties now working’ to get it over the line and completed after several days of negotiations.

After a difficult 18 months since moving to Spurs from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022, Spence will be hoping he can kick start his career in Italy, like numerous English players such as Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham have done in the last few seasons.

It is a real shame that it just never worked out for Spence at Elland Road as there is no doubt his talent could’ve been a huge asset for the rest of the season.

All of Leeds’ focus now, though, should be on finding a suitable replacement with Burnley’s Connor Roberts among those linked.
