Djed Spence made his debut for Serie A side Genoa recently after his Leeds loan was cancelled and he returned to Tottenham – and now, the Spurs right-back could be joined by Ben Godfrey at Genoa.
Godfrey, 26, has been struggling for game time at Goodison Park this season. Just three matches this term, under Sean Dyche. James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite are first pick right now at Everton.
Leeds have been linked with a move for the two-time England star despite interest from Sheffield United and Milan. Graeme Bailey told us it will be tough to do – but Leeds have been watching him for a while.
Indeed, there are other options on the table for Bailey. Sheffield United and AC Milan have been linked, too. Now, Fabrizio Romano delivers an update on the race for the former Norwich City man this month.
It is claimed that Serie A side Genoa are making a move to land the versatile ace. A move that would see Godfrey link up with Spence in Italy, but a deal will be a difficult one for the £68k-a-week Everton man.
Leeds United target Ben Godfrey could team up with Djed Spence
Not only would it be a blow to lose out on what might be the perfect January addition – not only because he is a quality defender, but also as he can cover right-back and centre-back – but it would be to Genoa.
The Serie A side obviously need a centre-back after selling Radu Dragusin to Tottenham. A move that also saw Spence go to Genoa, on loan, after his Leeds spell was cancelled. A decision that Leeds made.
The race for Godfrey is hotting up and while Leeds are in the mix, top-tier clubs are coming in for him and it seems unlikely he would choose the Championship over the Premier League, or a move to Italy.
