Leeds United’s search for a new defender has seen the Whites now linked with a move for Everton man Ben Godfrey this month – with the race hotting up to land the versatile star before the deadline.
Godfrey, 26, has been warming the bench at Everton this season with Sean Dyche preferring to stick with the experienced James Tarkowski – alongside Jarrad Branthwaite. He’s managed just three games.
That has seen him become potentially available this month for a possible move. A report from Italian site CalcioMercato states that Leeds and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United are among the clubs interested.
Atalanta had been close to striking a deal for the defender, who has operated on both sides of the back line in the past too, despite his large frame. A move fell through, but AC Milan are also considering him.
It is an interesting one given Godfrey joined Everton from Norwich for a huge £25m in 2020 – but he has only managed 80 outings for the Toffees. Injury has limited his game time over the last couple of years.

Leeds United linked with move for Everton defender Ben Godfrey
Leeds need options in defence. Charlie Cresswell was left out once again on Sunday and you would think he will be on his bike before the end of the window. We also lack in reliable options on the flanks.
Godfrey is able to play on the right or the left and that makes him a very useful signing. Even if he does not start for us, which he probably should if he is able to give his best, then he’s perfect for the bench.
Whether Godfrey would be tempted with a return to the Championship, we will have to wait and see – but, the chance to reunite with Daniel Farke who managed him at Forest may just pull at Godfrey.
