‘Excellent’ player now tipped to leave his club and join Leeds United soon

Former Celtic striker John Hartson believes David Turnbull could go to a top Championship side like Leeds United soon.

Turnbull is currently enjoying an impressive campaign for Celtic in midfield with seven goals in 12 league appearances already.

He is the second Celtic midfielder to have been linked with a move to Leeds in the last few months, with the Whites having reportedly submitted an offer of £10 million for Matt O’Riley in the summer.

However, speaking on the latest episode of the Go Radio Football Show, Hartson thinks it is Turnbull who could end up moving to a side vying for promotion to the Premier League, like Leeds.

He said: “I like David Turnbull. I have always said it, he is a goalscoring midfield player. He adds that 10-14 goals every year for you from midfield. I can see him going to a top Championship team, like a Leeds United.”

Leeds don’t need a new midfielder for now

Turnbull, who Brendan Rodgers has described as ‘excellent’ this season, would certainly provide Leeds’ midfield options with something they do not currently have at the moment, which is goals.

Thankfully, however, Leeds’ front four has been on fire in recent weeks, with Crysencio Summerville, Dan James, Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe having scored 26 goals between them already.

That means there is little pressure on whoever Leeds’ starting midfield two is to contribute with goals. Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara, Archie Gray and Ilia Gruev are all vying for those spots, making a new midfielder a low priority.

If Leeds were to get promoted, however, that is when their transfer needs could change, as they will undoubtedly be looking to add more quality across the pitch.

With that in mind, O’Riley would be a better signing than Turnbull. He has similar goalscoring numbers, but is more creative and has also performed in the Champions League.
