‘Excellent’ left-back posts on Instagram after snubbing Leeds United interest for another club

With just 16 days left in the summer transfer window, Leeds United are desperately trying to sign a full-back, a goalscoring midfielder and a replacement for Crysencio Summerville.

The 49ers needed to bring cash into the club and have sold seven players, let five go on loan and waved goodbye to plenty more at the end of their contracts. It has seen the depth of Daniel Farke’s squad cut.

There have been a handful of signings, though Joe Rodon is not a new arrival given his loan last term and Alex Cairns is unlikely to play given he is third-choice in goal behind duo Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow.

Jayden Bogle and Joe Rothwell have been added while Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson are back at Leeds. But The Whites are still in the market for three new signings in the next fortnight at Elland Road.

Left-back linked with Leeds posts on Instagram after joining club

Leeds have been touted with a number of left-sided defenders. Milan’s Fode Ballo-Toure, Spain-born Ireland U21 star Anselmo MacNulty and Leeds have bid for Chelsea’s left-footed Bashir Humphreys.

Another was Wolves ace Hugo Bueno, with Leeds said to have been rivaling Celtic and Feyenoord for his signature. But Gary O’Neil confirmed this week Bueno was joining Feyenoord before an announcement.

Now, Bueno has posted on Instagram after the move was announced, underlining his excitement ahead of a season with a club pushing for the Eredivisie title and competing in this season’s Champions League.

He said: “Really happy to be here, I can’t wait to get started.”

Leeds have a problem with signing the likes of Wolves ace Bueno

Landing the “excellent” Bueno would have been a top signing. An attacking full-back with quality which has been proven in the Premier League and there is no doubt he will be a good signing for Feyenoord.

But Leeds have a problem with signing players on loan from Premier League clubs. Top-tier sides will only want to loan out their players if they are going to be first choice and Leeds struggle to promise that.

Bueno would have competed with Junior Firpo, but would have probably been second choice. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has joined Sheffield United because he got assurances over game time under Chris Wilder.

It is an issue that saw Leeds miss out on Fabio Carvalho at Liverpool in January, the new Brentford star going to Hull City instead. Unless Leeds can promise they are first choice, they will struggle to do a deal.
