Simon Jordan has shared a fresh verdict on Leeds United’s battle for automatic promotion ahead of the midweek round of fixtures.
Leeds, along with Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton are all back in action over the next couple of days with potential for some new twists and turns in the race for the top two.
The division’s top four sides are all setting a pace that has never been seen before at this level, showed by the fact Leeds fell from second to third on Saturday after dropping points for the first time in 2024.
However, after three defeats in a row for Leicester, it is now very much four sides playing for two places, with it previously having looked as though it was three for one.
However, speaking on talkSPORT today, former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan does not see Leicester relinquishing top spot, despite the form of those behind them.
Jordan tips Leicester for title
He said: “If they [Leicester] win, they’re back on track again. I think the remarkable story in recent weeks has been the return of Ipswich because everybody wrote them off.
“Everyone thought that the moment Leeds got into the groove, the relegated clubs were going to dominate the automatic places, which is not proving to be the case. I think it’s a fascinating situation and I still think Leicester are going to come out on top of it.”
It is fair to say that the battle is very much hotting up with pundits from various different outlets now discussing one of the most intriguing automatic promotion battles in years.
Jamie Carragher has tipped all of the three relegated clubs to seal an immediate return to the Premier League, while Ally McCoist also expects Leicester and Leeds to finish in the top two.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the table looks after the midweek fixtures given how many twists there have been over the last few weeks, with more in the offing.
