Leeds United have already waved goodbye to a number of players since the end of the 2022-23 season, with a number of senior players and younger players departing Elland Road – and below, is a list of all players to have left.
List of all players to have left Leeds this summer:
Adam Forshaw – Free agent
Forshaw was invited back for pre-season, but remains a no-show. Leeds chose not to extend his contract before it came to an end. Phil Hay says there is a contract on the table for the midfielder, but it reflects his previous injuries.
Joel Robles – Free agent
Robles, like Forshaw, has been invited back to pre-season but again, a no show. No offer has been presented, or at least reported about. It looks as if Robles will be on the lookout for a new club in the coming weeks and months.
Update – July 17: Robles has now confirmed, via a post on social media, that he is leaving Leeds. He has decided not to renew terms or return for pre-season training. It comes after fellow Spaniards Marc Roca and Rodrigo left.
Stuart McKinstry – Free agent
McKinstry has left the club on a free after a difficult loan spell at boyhood club Motherwell. A solid start in the first half of the season, he fell down the pecking order. The Scotland U21 man has been linked with a move to Harrogate.
Jay Buchan – Sheffield Wednesday (free)
Buchan was released by Leeds as per our retained list, following the end of the season. The teenage midfielder has since penned a one-year deal at Championship, and local rivals Wednesday. He will be in their U21 side next term.
Will Brook – Nottingham Forest (free)
Like Buchan, Brook was named as a player leaving Leeds on a free – with too many goalkeepers sitting ahead of him even at U21 level. He has since completed a move to Nottingham Forest on a free, where he will be with the 21’s.
Ben Andreucci – Bolton Wanderers (free)
Again, like Buchan and Brook, Andreucci was included on the retained list as a player that would not have his Leeds deal renewed. Given his form for our U18’s last season, it might have been Andreucci’s decision. He joins Bolton.
Alfie McCalmont – Carlisle United (undisclosed)
McCalmont has joined League One side Carlisle after spending the second half of last season on loan there. Helping gain promotion via the play-offs, McCalmont will now be helping his new side avoid a League One relegation battle.
Tyler Roberts – Birmingham City (Less than £500k)
Having endured another injury-filled season on loan at QPR, playing just 20 times and missing the trip to Qatar with Wales, Roberts has left Leeds a year before his deal ended. Birmingham Live report he has cost less than £500k.
Robin Koch – Frankfurt (Loan, to leave next summer)
Germany star Koch has joined Frankfurt on loan for 23-24. But with his deal ending in June 2024, he has ended his Leeds spell. It is likely he joins Frankfurt permanently from January 1, when he can sign a pre-contract agreement.
Brenden Aaronson – Union Berlin (Loan, no option)
USA star Aaronson has decided he does not want to stay at Leeds with the club in the Championship and despite his poor form last season and contribution to our relegation – he has left for Union on loan, without an option.
Diego Llorente – Roma (Loan, no option)
Llorente spent the second half of last season on loan at Roma, playing in the Europa League final, and has rejoined for the 23-24 season. There were talks to discuss permanent options, but a deal has been struck without an option.
Rodrigo – Al-Rayyan (£3m)
No surprise to see Rodrigo go, but perhaps more of a surprise to see him go to the Middle East with Qatari side Al-Rayyan. Having worked his way back into Spain’s squad ahead of Euro 2024 – it all but ends his international duty.
Rasmus Kristensen – Roma (loan)
Brought in as a reunion with Jesse Marsch, it simply did not go to plan. Struggling initially, he was quickly replaced by Luke Ayling in the starting XI – the man he was supposed to replace. Following relegation, he has jumped ship.
Marc Roca – Betis (loan)
Well it was one that seemed to drag on, and on, and on. Finally, the two clubs have managed to get a deal over the line that sees Roca return to Spain for the first time since leaving in 2020 to join Bayern. There is an option in a deal.
