Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed on their official website that they have completed the signing of Jay Buchan after Leeds United announced he would be leaving Elland Road – despite even playing for our Under-21’s last term.

Buchan, 18, was one of six players to leave Leeds as announced on the club’s retained list. That also included Joel Robles, Adam Forshaw, Stuart McKinstry, Will Brook and Ben Andreucci – the latter of which has gone to Bolton.

Then, Brook joined Nottingham Forest – having left due to the pantheon of goalkeepers currently on the books at Elland Road. McKinstry is yet to find a new home, while Forshaw and Robles have been invited back for pre-season.

But neither are yet to sign a new deal. The latest news in terms of this group of players is that Buchan has found a new club in the form of our Championship rivals, and local enemies, Sheffield Wednesday. It is unclear for how long.

It is a good move for Buchan. He will be looking to make himself a regular in Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-21 side – having been a key part of our U18 side last term. Buchan did actually play for the 21’s, but only on one occasion.

He needed a move, with plenty ahead of him in the pecking order – even if the likes of Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray are to step up into the senior side this season. Cian Coleman, Joe Snowden, Max McFadden are all set to step up.

It left little room for Buchan to really make an impression at Leeds during the 2023-24 season. So, the decision to let him go suited him and now, he will be looking to show us what we are missing, at rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
