European club are preparing to say ‘goodbye’ to £13m man, Leeds have taken action to sign him

Leeds United are not expected to be making any permanent signings in the January window but the Whites continue to be linked with a while host of players – and one of those is Kerem Akturkoglu.

Akturkoglu has been on fire for Galatasaray this season. He has had a hand in 16 goals, scoring eight goals and laying on eight more for the SuperLig side. But his future is uncertain, with interest growing.

The 25-year-old has even scored against Manchester United twice in the Champions League this term. So it came as a surprise when reports said Leeds and Lazio had been in talks to sign the Turkish ace.

With a move in January unlikely for all three parties, it has been said that Leeds will retain their interest until the summer. But, a new report from Turkish site Aksam says Akturkoglu is set to go this month.

The report states that Galatasaray are preparing to say goodbye to their star player, who even wore the captain’s armband earlier this month. Leeds have ‘taken action’, and ‘persistently’ want to sign him.

A fee of £13m will be required to land the playmaker, who can play as a 10 or on either side of what is Daniel Farke’s 4-2-3-1. His ‘dream’ is to play in Europe and Leeds are trying to give him that opportunity.

Leeds have of course, tried to sign a no.10 in the last few months. Nadiem Amiri, Matt O’Riley and more were linked in the summer – but Leeds could not get a deal over the line. Leeds lack a recognised no.10.

Joel piroe has played there. Georginio Rutter can drop in, but is better up top. Joe Gelhardt is the next obvious option and CRee Summerville is best on the left. A no.10 is needed. It could be Akturkoglu.
