‘End of the week’: Sam Allardyce confirms he is about to talk with Leeds about his future

Sam Allardyce has confirmed he will hold talks with Leeds United this week over potentially extending his stay as manager at the club.

Allardyce was speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, where he explained Leeds will have to clarify the uncertainty surrounding the ownership situation before holding a meeting with them.

The 68-year-old was originally brought in at the beginning of May for the final four matches of the season and was handed the remit of keeping Leeds in the Premier League.

However, with just one point under his leadership, Leeds were relegated to the Championship, though that has not stopped Allardyce from hinting at his desire to remain at Elland Road.

Angus Kinnear has been the man tasked with holding talks with potential managerial candidates and Allardyce appears to be one of them, though it was deemed as highly unlikely in a report by the Mail on Wednesday.

Allardyce confirms talks

Leeds are set to sit down and review Allardyce’s performance in their meeting, which should be where any potential hopes of an extension are put to bed.

Andrea Radrizzani dropped a huge hint he would not be selling the remainder of his shares to San Francisco 49ers Enterprises and with that clarity, talks with potential managers can really accelerate.

Allardyce said: “I have to see what’s at Leeds United. I have to meet with them and we’re going to arrange that before the end of the week.

“They obviously have to reflect on what’s happening at the top and then me to have a discussion with them and see where we go.”

While it is nice to hear him being honest on the state of Leeds at the top, the quicker any hopes he may harness of staying are put to bed the better.

It was reported earlier this week that the players would be keen on him staying, however with many of them likely to leave anyway, they should be ignored.

Leeds simply must turn over a new chapter and find a manager who can really galvanise the fans ahead of the new season.
