Sam Allardyce’s chances of a return to Leeds United have been rated as ‘unlikely’ with the club looking to progress in their search for a new manager.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim Allardyce is set to meet with the Leeds hierarchy tomorrow to discuss his future, with a permanent appointment at this stage not expected.
Allardyce was brought in for the final four matches of the season tasked with the remit of keeping Leeds in the Premier League following a dismal run of form under Javi Gracia.
However, the former England boss failed miserably in his attempts to preserve the Whites’ top-flight status as he picked up just one point.
Allardyce has hinted in his month at the club he would like to stay at Leeds for next season, though his hopes appear to be fading.
Allardyce set for meeting
Angus Kinnear has been the man handed the role of speaking to managerial targets amid the current uncertainty surrounding the ownership and sporting director vacancy.
The Leeds managing director was the man who originally suggested to bring Allardyce in, but it looks as if he is searching elsewhere ahead of the new Championship season.
This is certainly positive news from a Leeds perspective, with Allardyce having shown very little during his time at Elland Road to suggest he deserves a shot at getting the club promoted.
Particularly in the last game, his team selections were overly pragmatic and in possession, Leeds looked abysmal, which will need to be worked on massively during pre-season.
A new manager with some forward thinking ideas would go a long way to breathing fresh optimism into the Leeds fan base, so hearing that Allardyce is unlikely to return should be music to the ears.
