Early Leeds predicted XI for Millwall: full debuts for two new signings as 29-year-old also returns

Leeds United make the trip to Millwall in the first game after the international break.

Daniel Farke will have had an extra two weeks on the training ground to get his ideas across to the squad after a non-stop first two months in charge at Elland Road.

The break came at arguably the perfect time for Leeds, with the end of the summer transfer window having been an extremely chaotic one for everyone around the club.

Upon the resumption of the season at Millwall, Leeds and Farke can now solely focus on matters on the pitch, though they could not have asked for a much tougher fixture to restart with.

With the game in eight days’ time, we have taken an early look at how Leeds could line-up.

Goalkeeper

Despite speculation he would be leaving throughout the summer, Illan Meslier is still at Leeds and firmly remains Farke’s first choice at this stage.

Defence

Leeds kept their first clean sheet since February against Sheffield Wednesday but Farke could make two changes to the back four at Millwall.

Djed Spence showed what he will bring to Leeds in his 10-minute cameo last time out and should be handed a full debut at right-back ahead of Luke Ayling, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk again in central defence.

Sam Byram looks set to be fit again after his injury at Ipswich Town and despite Jamie Shackleton’s good performance last time out, should come straight back in at left-back.

Midfield

Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu have started every match together so far this season but it is important the former is not over-worked given his age.

Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara will both be pushing to make their full debuts at the Den, and the latter should get the nod.

Attack

Dan James, Jaidon Anthony and Patrick Bamford could all be in the squad for the trip to the capital in what will be a huge boost to Farke’s attacking options.

Despite the frustrations of the last game, though, Crysencio Summerville, Joel Piroe, Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter should all keep their places in the front four.
