‘Do some damage’: Tony Dorigo’s pre-season comments on 25-year-old Leeds man have been spot on

Tony Dorigo predicted in pre-season that Dan James could be a really useful weapon for Leeds United this season.

Dorigo was speaking on LUTV commentary during Leeds’ opening friendly of the summer, where claimed James would be an important player under Daniel Farke.

James had been deemed surplus to requirements at Leeds in the summer of 2022, just 12 months on from his £25 million move from Manchester United.

The 25-year-old made the season-long-loan switch to Fulham, where he struggled to make an impact, starting just seven matches in the Premier League.

As such, James returned to Elland Road in the summer as a Championship player after parent club Leeds‘ relegation from the Premier League.

Dorigo’s James prediction proven spot on

The friendly against Manchester United was James’ first game back in a Leeds shirt following his period away, with Dorigo predicting he could do some serious ‘damage’ in the Championship.

“He could be a very useful addition. A lot of times before, we played him up front which I really don’t think is his position. But I think this season, he can really do some damage and be an important player for us.”

So far that prediction has proven to be correct, even if James does continue to be a frustrating player to watch at times with his decision making.

James has provided four assists already this season in the Championship, a tally bettered only by former Leeds defender Leif Davis, who is on five.

His pace has so far proven difficult for defenders to handle and if he can produce more of the deliveries like against West Brom and Watford, double figures for assists is easily attainable.
