Leeds United have been keeping tabs on AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi this season.
Leeds scouts will have been impressed with they saw from him last night in the FA Cup second round win over Ramsgate last night, even if he was left a little frustrated.
Al-Hamadi was taken off just after the hour mark having scored his second goal of the evening 10 minutes earlier, much to his disappointment as he eyed a hattrick.
The 21-year-old was speaking to ITV Sport after the game where he labelled it as ‘normal frustrations’ for any striker being replaced at that time in the game.
Al-Hamadi has been on fire for both club and country in recent weeks having netted seven goals in his last six appearances, which is only likely to turn the heads of top clubs keeping their eye on him.
Leeds in for quiet January window
Reflecting on his disappointment at coming off, Al-Hamadi just put it down to his hunger to score as many goals as possible, which is a good indication of his mentality.
He said: “Yeah I am just hungry to score loads of goals, and I was on a hattrick. I think any striker coming off on two goals would have been a bit disappointed but just normal frustrations I guess. I am over it now and just happy we got through to the next round.”
If Leeds are to firm up their interest in Al-Hamadi next month, they will have to pay a fee higher than AFC Wimbledon have ever received for one player in their history.
In truth, though, it feels unlikely that Leeds will go for him with Daniel Farke having already admitted that January will be a quiet window of activity.
Angus Kinnear has also already hinted that loans will make up the bulk of Leeds’ transfer strategy next month, as they target players who are perhaps more ready to make an instant impact in a Championship promotion race.
