Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth says it is ‘difficult’ to see a way back for Max Wober at Leeds United.
Smyth was speaking in the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast, where he was discussing Wober’s likely arrival at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Wober had looked as though he would be staying at Elland Road this season after reportedly informing Leeds bosses he would be willing to fight for promotion back to the Premier League.
However, that will no longer be the case with Daniel Farke confirming after the 2-0 defeat to AS Monaco last weekend Wober was absent due to a ‘transfer situation’.
Reports then quickly broke of Borussia Monchengladbach’s interest in the 25-year-old, with Wober having told Leeds he was keen to make the move to Germany.

Given the nature of how this exit has happened, Smyth says it is ‘almost impossible’ to see a way back for Wober at Leeds.
He said: “There is no doubt in my mind that there is a clause and it will be a loan, but also with this one there may be a permanent option in there. It is difficult to see a way back at Leeds for a lot of these players, and it’s almost impossible to see a way back for Max Wober.
“We were not getting noises to say Wober was off, the club seemed optimistic they would keep Wober, and that always stems from something, Wober had been involved.”
Wober will become the sixth player to leave Leeds on loan this summer with Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca and Rasmus Kristensen all already having sealed temporary moves.
However, it is arguably Wober’s that will leave the most bitter taste in the mouth based on the reports of him being keen to stay at the club.
A permanent option is being discussed between the two clubs, and perhaps that will be better for all parties to avoid any toxicity in 12 months’ time.
