Daniel Farke’s worrying record against Burnley ahead of Leeds United showdown

Daniel Farke takes his Leeds United side across the Pennines to face Burnley on Saturday, with Scott Parker in charge of the Clarets.

Leeds United and Burnley are looking to end the persistent cycle of gaining promotion only to be relegated immediately during the season after. However, the Premier League is unforgiving at the best of times.

It’s another massive game and pitches 15th against 18th in the current standings. Leeds have now lost two of the last four league games and Jaka Bijol will want to start against Burnley and make an impact with a Premier League debut.

Burnley, meanwhile, have lost five and drawn one of the last six games in all competitions. Scott Parker and co. need a lift. Points are required, even if, after picking up 100 points last season, Opta outline signs of Burnley and Leeds adapting to life in the Premier League.

Burnley’s remarkable record against Daniel Farke

Burnley and Sunderland outspent Leeds in the recent summer transfer window. Despite that, Jamie Carragher has backed Leeds to survive over Burnley in 2025/26.

Overall, Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland have started better than Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton last season, and better than the majority of newly-promoted teams in recent memory.

But the truth lately is more that Leeds and Sunderland have put Burnley’s points tally to shame. In fact, Leeds fans are sure Burnley will be relegated and fill one of the bottom three places.

But this game could go a long way to changing the fortunes of the Clarets and closing the gap to the Whites. That is why Farke’s managerial record against Burnley makes for more interesting reading, too.

As was the case last season, they are usually low-margin affairs when Farke faces Burnley. Leeds beat all but four teams at least once last term, with the Clarets managing a 1-0 win at Elland Road and the 0-0 draw in January.

Only West Bromwich Albion (0-0 and 1-1), Portsmouth (3-3 and 1-0), and Blackburn Rovers (1-0 and 1-1) were unbeaten against Farke’s Leeds in 2024/25.

Daniel Farke’s record against Burnley

Leeds’ boss managed against Burnley four times whilst at Norwich City, with five of those coming in the league. His solitary win was an FA Cup game, meaning he has not seen his side score a league goal against Burnley.

Remarkably, this will be Farke’s fifth game against Burnley at Turf Moor, having only taken charge of two games at Carrow Road or Elland Road.

Scott Parker’s Burnley are very different from January

Despite signing Kyle Walker, Leeds have far more Premier League experience than Burnley in these new-look squads. Neither team looks anything like what they did in January during their last meeting at Turf Moor.

The likes of CJ Egan-Riley, James Trafford, and Josh Brownhill were all key to their promotion last term. None of them are at the club now, with players like Axel Tuanzebe and Martin Dubravka now at the club as replacements.

Perhaps the biggest shift has been to playing as a back five team with wing-backs lately. That said, Parker has played a 4-3-3 in some games as well. What is for sure is that it won’t be two teams playing a 4-2-3-1 as it was in the January snoozefest.

It’s a game both teams will be targeting maximum points from, be that home or away.
