Daniel Farke’s managerial record against Middlesbrough is incredible ahead of Leeds United match tonight

The 20th chapter of the Championship season comes in the form of Middlesbrough’s trip to Elland Road on Tuesday night as Leeds United look to keep the pressure on leaders Sheffield United.

Leeds closed the gap on the Blades by two points on the weekend after a 2-0 win over Derby County. Sheffield United meanwhile, only managed a point away at West Brom on Sunday afternoon, drawing 2-2.

Chris Wilder says Leeds are “miles ahead” of his Sheffield United side. Perhaps, an attempt at mind games from the Blades boss who continues to have his say on Leeds regularly, amid the race for promotion.

Wilfried Gnonto says the Leeds squad are taking it game by game, not thinking about the promotion race given there are still 27 Championship games to play. Middlesbrough up next then, at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s incredible career record against Middlesbrough

If anything is going to give Leeds confidence going into a tough clash against a side that has already beaten Leeds this season, it is Farke’s record against Michael Carrick’s men over the last few years.

Farke has faced Middlesbrough on nine occasions, three with Leeds and then six with former side Norwich City. In that time, Farke has clocked up seven wins – with Leeds doing the double over Boro last season.

Intriguingly, throughout his time at Norwich, Farke did not concede a single goal against Middlesbrough in six games. On five occasions, Norwich beat Boro with Farke in the dugout 1-0, drawing the other 0-0.

Leeds United injury news ahead of Middlesbrough clash

Ilia Gruev remains a long-term absentee though Bulgarian reports say Gruev is back on the grass at Leeds United, albeit not yet in team training. Junior Firpo has been ruled out for the Christmas period.

The left-back has picked up a hamstring injury and will require up to six weeks to recover. Sam Byram is back in the squad after a hamstring issue, but Jayden Bogle is expected to be missing on Tuesday night.

Ethan Ampadu is back in the squad and is hopeful of making his first outing since his injury against Coventry. Farke is also likely to rotate his wingers again, and bring Wilfried Gnonto back into the squad.
