Leeds United slipped to second place in the Championship table on Sunday afternoon as Sheffield United were pegged back by Carlos Corberan’s West Brom, and Chris Wilder has been speaking.

Leeds returned to the top of the Championship on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Derby, thanks to Joe Rodon and Max Wober’s goals. All eyes turned to Sunday as Sheffield United travelled to West Brom.

Chris Wilder’s side were leading at The Hawthorns up until the hour mark after coming from a goal down to lead 2-1, with Callum O’Hare and Tyrese Campbell cancelling out Torbjorn Heggem’s Baggies opener.

But Tom Fellows scored a West Brom equaliser and the scoreline stayed the same, remaining 2-2. The point saw Sheffield United return to the top, but Leeds have closed the gap from three points to one.

The race for automatic promotion is intense, even at this stage. Sunderland got back to winning ways and it has dragged them back into the mix, while Burnley drew with Middesbrough on Friday at Turf Moor.

Four heavyweights, separated by just three points. Asked about being in a race for the Championship title but importantly, finishing in the top two – Wilder told The Sheffield Star that Leeds are “miles ahead”.

“I’ve just been asked a question about being in contention with Leeds United – Leeds are miles ahead of us. We’ve got our own fight, to improve individually and as a team. I’m just focusing on us,” he said.

Predicting Leeds, Sheffield United and others’ next three games

Leeds take on Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, which will be a tough game especially given Leeds were beaten 3-0 by Michael Carrick’s men at Elland Road in the Cup. Then, Leeds face Oxford and Preston.

While Leeds have been superb at Elland Road, The Whites will do well to avoid defeat to Middlesbrough. Preston has been tricky for Leeds under Daniel Farke, but they are struggling and Leeds should win.

Oxford at Elland Road will surely result in a easy home win for the Whites, but LeedsUnited.News thinks Sheffield United and Burnley will also achieve the same amount of points, leaving things as they are.
