Daniel Farke has got the better of the majority of managers he has faced since taking over at Leeds United, but one boss has got the better of him in the last 18 months – and he’s on the move.
Farke has only lost five games in all competitions this season and one of those came on Saturday, a 2-0 loss to Millwall. It is the second time Millwall have beaten Leeds this term, but under different managers.
Neil Harris and Alex Neil secured wins for The Lions against Leeds, even if The Whites made 10 changes with Ethan Ampadu the only starter. Leeds have also lost to Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Burnley.
Daniel Farke nemesis in line for shock Championship move
John Eustace was in charge for Blackburn’s 1-0 win at Ewood Park in November, when Ao Tanaka felled Tyrhys Dolan in the penalty area and Todd Cantwell scored the resulting spot-kick to secure a 1-0 victory.
Then on New Year’s Day, Eustace’s Blackburn came to Leeds and despite Pascal Struijk’s penalty, Leeds still failed to win with Danny Batth scoring late on. Farke has met Eustace four times since taking over.
Three losses, one draw. Last season, a 1-0 loss to Birmingham in August 2023 before Eustace’s move to Blackburn, and then Sammie Szmodics scored the only goal of the game at Elland Road in April 2024.
Now, Eustace could be on the move to a third club in the time Farke has been Leeds manager. As per The Lancashire Telegraph, Derby have made a move and Sky’s Rob Dorsett says talks will progress later today.
Dorsett said on X a deal will progress after Blackburn’s FA Cup clash with Wolves: “Negotiations expected to accelerate after full time. Seems bizarre, withDerby in relegation places. Derby have ambitious plans.”
Move from Blackburn to Derby would be bizarre for Eustace
Eustace has produced miracles at Blackburn. His side might have suffered defeat to Wolves on Sunday in The FA Cup, but Blackburn sit in the play-off positions in the Championship table as things stand.
The way the league has fallen after 31 matches, sees four fighting for the top two and the rest fighting for fifth and sixth. But Blackburn are right in that mix, which makes it bizarre that Eustace would join Derby.
The Rams have sacked Paul Warne and now sit 22nd after a solid away point at Norwich City. They are well-positioned to fight against the drop but why Eustace would join Derby, seems a bizarre one.
